The 19th China Warehouse and Distribution Conference and the 11th China (International) Green Warehouse and Distribution Conference were held in Suzhou, Jiangsu on June 27, 2024, hosted by the China Storage and Distribution Association with support from the Suzhou Storage Industry Association. The theme of the conference was "Digitization, Intelligence, and Modernization Direction of Warehousing." Over 600 representatives from more than 450 companies attended the event.
The conference adopted a 1+3 model, which included the main forum on the morning of June 27, and the 11th China (International) Green Warehouse and Distribution Conference held concurrently that afternoon. Two additional forums focused on innovative smart logistics and the application of warehousing and distribution digitization were held on June 27 and June 28 respectively.
President Shen Shaoji of the China Storage and Distribution Association attended the conference and delivered a keynote address. He addressed the hot topics and focal points in industry development since 2023, and in line with the key initiatives being pushed by relevant national authorities, he proposed ten areas for industry focus and research, including warehouse supply-demand relationships, market order maintenance, intergenerational succession of logistics enterprises, integration and expansion with professional and lean operations, overseas warehouses and international logistics standardization and customization, digitalization and public cloud platforms, enterprise costs and society-wide logistics costs, how warehousing and distribution enterprises can integrate into modern merchandise circulation systems, and how these enterprises can participate in production and manufacturing enterprises' supply chain innovations. His aim was to foster the healthy development of the warehousing industry and gradually enhance its modernization level.
In her speech titled "China's Warehouse Industry Development Situation and Outlook," Vice President and Secretary General Li Yan of the China Storage and Distribution Association focused on key indicators such as warehouse size, operational changes (rent and vacancy rates), industry fixed asset investment, and warehouse business operations. She noted that the industry as a whole had remained stable in 2023 but faced challenges. She highlighted industry trends such as increased concentration, diversified competitive entities, cooling capital market financing for warehousing facilities, progress in green warehousing, significant advancements in automation and digitalization, equipment companies expanding overseas, the implementation of large-scale logistics models and unmanned delivery, growing integration and digitalization in industry fusion, the evolving landscape of cold storage logistics, ongoing improvements in overseas warehousing networks, the impact of full-service management in cross-border supply chains, profitability of on-demand delivery companies, an increase in new entrants, enhanced safety management under dual-driver rules and standards for hazardous chemical storage, the gradual improvement of logistics base operations for Chinese herbal medicines, and the regulation of financial warehousing through a combination of regulations, industry maps, and public platforms.
Regarding future industry developments, Vice President Li Yan suggested focusing on reducing societal logistics costs, leveraging digital solutions to add value for customers, creating new service systems through integration and innovation, and exploring growth opportunities in cross-border logistics, reverse logistics, and sustainability. She also pointed out that the development of new quality productivity in logistics is influenced by favorable conditions such as central government emphasis, vast market potential, strong enterprise innovation capabilities, and substantial investment in innovation. The rapid advancement of the warehousing logistics sector in terms of digitalization, globalization, and green practices, as well as the creation of innovative models like platformization, supply chainization, ecosystemation, and networkization, indicates promising prospects for the sector's development in China.
